Intellectual Property and Standardisation Law Help Desk
In recent years, issues related to the protection of intellectual property have become increasingly more important, which is why we decided to launch the Intellectual Property and Standardisation Law Help Desk. More and more people are aware of the need to protect intellectual creations, investments, products, services or inventions. Thus, there is a need for access to knowledge on copyright, standards and patents.
The Patent Library and Patent Information Centre Network in Europe (PATLIB) was created in response to these needs. This European initiative brings together more than 300 patent information centres regionally distributed in the member states of the European Patent Office, referred to as 'PATLIB centres'. One such centre, the Patent Information and Standardisation Centre [Centrum Informacji Patentowej i Normalizacyjnej], was established at the Centre for Academic Enterprise and Technology Transfer [Centrum Przedsiębiorczości Akademickiej i Transferu Technologii] at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. It provides services in the field of, among others:
- provision of patent documentation
- helpdesk services
- analysis of patent statistics
- user training
- lectures
- commercialisation of exclusive rights
- consultation with industrial property specialists
- assistance in developing an intellectual property strategy
The Property and Standardisation Law Help Desk plays an important role in the Patent Information and Standardisation Centre. Its main focus is advising on intellectual property law (copyright and industrial property law). It also carries out patent searches in public patent databases and makes selected standards available for on-the-spot consultation. Assistance is offered in the form of free advice and consultation. Questions shall be answered within seven working days. This time limit may be extended in accordance with pt. 12 of the Help Desk Regulations.
The offer of the counselling centre is addressed to all people:
- interested in advice on the protection and promotion of intellectual property
- wishing to implement new technologies in their business
- seeking knowledge on the conditions necessary to meet the standards
The activities of the counselling centre are not limited to providing counselling and information on standards. Ultimately, it is intended as a place to spread and develop knowledge about the protection of intellectual property, not only at the university but also among the citizens of the city of Toruń.
The students who cooperate with the Help Desk will carry out a number of activities related to the promotion of intellectual property protection. The plans include open meetings with experts, training courses, workshops and open days.
